CCMP194 was cryopreserved on May 26 2006 using 12% DMSO as a cryoprotectant.

The time required to regrow this culture, prior shipping, is approximately 18 days. If interested, please contact the CCMP for the cryopreservation methods (freezing and/or thawing protocols).

Note that aquaculture strains are always maintained as actively growing cultures, even if also cryogenically stored. Therefore, aquaculture strains (see aquaculture express ordering on the CCMP home page) can be shipped immediately upon request.
Strain Specific FAQs:
Q:       Does CCMP194 require more silica now?  Or has something changed about it in the last six months--year?  We do not add silica to our cultures.  Maybe there is enough silica in our water for the culture of CCMP194 that we have now , but the new one we received requires more?

A:       When we grow CCMP194 we add silica to the media. If your water has enough to grow it well without this addition it may also have enough silica for CCMP1316 as well. I would suggest that you add the silica until the culture is well established. Then take a small amount and try growing it without. I suspect that both CCMP194 and CCMP1316 will grow better and be more robust with the additional silica.  CCMP1316 and CCMP463 are both axenic.
