J. W. Hastings, 87, a Pioneer in Bioluminescence Research, Dies

J.W. Hastings, 87, a pioneer in Bioluminescence research, died July 9 at his home in Lexington, Mass.  He was a Harvard biochemist who discovered how bacteria communicate and also devoted much of his career studying the light emitted by bacteria, fireflies, jellyfish and algae.
